On March 26, 2012 Twitter launched a new advertising solution for small business called Promoted Products. This new advertising program initiative promises to help promote small businesses on Twitter through their two types of Promoted Products solutions: Promoted Accounts and Promoted Tweets.
How Do Promoted Products on Twitter Work?
Promoted Tweets help amplify the impact of your tweets by automatically monitoring your most engaging tweets and automatically placing them in the feed of more of the right people in your target audience at the right time, as in the example below.
Promoted Accounts help you gain more followers by looking at your current followers and searching for people with similar interests, and when it finds a match, Twitter recommends you to that person in the Who to Follow section as shown below.
For both solutions you can set the limit of how much you want to spend per day, and how much you want to spend per new follower or engagement (e.g. Retweets, clicks).
To make the most of your advertising spending you can also decide where geographically it makes sense for your tweets to be promoted. You can target specific countries, or limit your reach to specific U.S. metropolitan areas.
How to Get Started with Promoted Products on Twitter?
Promoted products are currently only available for American Express Cardmembers and merchants.
