There’s a popular saying in digital marketing that “content is king.” Without high quality content, you’re likely to get lost in the shuffle among the thousands of other businesses competing within your industry. However, even the best original content can only take you so far. You need to be able to market this content in an effective way so that you can maximize its reach.
1. Don’t be afraid to be a content curator as well as a content creator.
While you should do everything possible to create a variety of unique, original content, a major part of content marketing is being a “curator” as well – that is, sharing other interesting content that relates to your business. Find relevant articles, photos, quotes or anything else that you think your audience would appreciate. You can also try to create content that fits in with a major topic of discussion, giving you a better chance to relate to the lives of your target audience.
2. Increase your engagement with your audience as much as possible.
Remember, the whole point of digital marketing is to get your audience involved in what you’re doing. Rather than simply pushing your content at them all the time, invite them to get involved on your blog or social media pages with polls, surveys, contests, specials and more. The more people get engaged with your brand, the more exposure you can create for your content.
3. Interact with other content creators within your market.
This type of interaction is a powerful tool for content marketing. The more you link to or comment on other parties’ content, such as blog posts, images or otherwise, the more likely they are to return the favor. Not only does this gain you more exposure from the source itself, but it also creates a greater history of backlinks that will increase your search rankings.
4. Have someone oversee all of your content marketing strategies.
This person can be someone within your company, a marketing consultant or a digital marketing agency. There should always be someone who supervises the creation and management of your online content so that you can be sure that it all remains consistent in your content marketing strategy.
5. Measure your results.
You should always be able to track your progress and measure your results, whether it’s through looking at your analytics, search rankings, social media engagement, blog comments and more. It’s pretty easy to give your content marketing strategies the “eye test” and see whether or not they’re succeeding.
